Lathe machine- Versatile Machine tool

A lathe machine is a machine tool used to extract the material from the workpiece to produce the necessary component. Lathe machine used to extract excess material from the workpiece in the form of chips to give a desired shape and size. We can obtain a flat cylindrical surface and a deep cut by this machining process. It executes various tasks like cutting, sanding, knurling, etc, and can be used for machining different types of workpieces.

The working theory of lathe

A lathe is a machine tool that holds the workpiece between two solid and strong supports called centers or chuck or faceplate which revolves. The cutting tool is rigidly held and supported in a tool post which is fed against the rotating work. The normal cutting operations are performed with the cutting tool fed either parallel or perpendicular to the working axis. The cutting tool may also be fed at an angle relative to the axis of work for machining tapers and angles. It is also called a versatile machine as a wide range of operations can be performed like Taper turning, drilling, thread cutting, milling, and grinding, they can do a lot more works according to the suitable attachments made by it.

Types of lathes

Nowadays, we use diverse types of sizes of lathes according to our necessity. As a leading lathe machine suppliers, we provide lathes in different specifications as per the requirements. Some of the key types of lathes used in the industry are below:

·        Speed/wood lathe

The speed lathe is the most simple machine. It works at very high speed and is used for light machining works like woodturning, metal spinning, and metal polishing.

·        Engine lathe

They are designed for low as well as very high power jobs. Many metals can be machined. It can run at a varied range of speed ratios. And can feed the workpiece in both directions, i.e. longitudinal and lateral routes by feed devices.

·        Tool-room lathe

The toolroom lathe is designed for high precision work. It gives better accuracy and finishing than other lathes. It has a wider range of speeds and can provide diverse types of feeds.

·        Turret lathes are usually used in mass production, workshops, or specialized parts. It is used where a series of procedures are necessary on the workpiece.

Depending on the modes of operation the lathe can be categorized as follows:

Manual lathe

Here, the tool handling is done manually and so the precision of the work depends on the skill of the person handling the machine.

CNC lathe

It is a completely automated lathe. We just have to feed the instruction and the lathe will perform the operations accordingly.

These are some of the most common kinds of lathe machines. Through Surelia Industries, Use the right lathe machines to achieve perfect results. Before making the purchase, you should always explore and find the best tool for your material.

What is the use of the lathe machine?

What is the use of the lathe machine? The lathe machine is one of the most ancient machine tools. Wooden lathe machines were used in France during the 16th century. Lathe machine helps in performing turning operations through which unwanted material is easily removed from a work-piece by rotating it against a cutting tool. In India, after the industrial revolution, the lathe machine was adapted for metal cutting. Today it is widely used in India and due to that, you will find n number of lathe machine suppliers in India . Where is the lathe machine used? Lathe machines today have become one of the most essential tools used in the industries. This is multi-purpose equipment used for various functions like shaping substances like metal, wood, etc. You will find this tool in almost all the workshops of metal industries. Not just metal but it caters to various other industries such as shipping, forging, power plants, paper mills, automobile, and textile industries among many o...

Significance of all geared Lathe Machine

There is no denying fact that necessity is the mother of all inventions. Thus all the machines are invented with a single purpose. In earlier days, giving shapes to metal was a tedious job & time-consuming process. Therefore, the invention of the lathe machine made the job of metal shaping much easier. Generally, it is used to remove the unwanted part from the metals to give it a new shape. And, the material is rotated against the tool which trims down the material into shape. However, in olden times, it was operated manually but the machine got many innovative improvements after that. Well, the technological changes brought many versatile changes to a lathe machine . And, there are many products which we use in our daily life using metals of different shapes & sizes. So, the production of all these products has been possible only due to a lathe machine. Thus, every other industry is influenced and it can even perform the complicated process of shaping metals. Therefore, t...

Lathe Machine: Its operation & components

In the manufacturing Industry, lathes are an indispensable machining instrument. A lathe machine is a tool that transforms cylindrical material, touches it with a cutting tool, and removes excess material. They assist in cutting, knurling, facing, and turning activities and are considered to be among the oldest machining instruments. A lathe machine is a machine tool that uses a cutting tool to remove material from the surface of a workpiece that is placed in a chuck and feed was supplied by the tool onto the workpiece for material removal. The operations are carried out either parallel or at right angles to the work axes . These devices may produce a wide range of shapes, cuts, and details on a spinning workpiece.     Selecting the Most appropriate Lathe Regardless of the kind of lathe machine you purchase, make certain that it has high-quality clamps. The clamps secure the workpiece while the tooling eliminates excess material. Low-quality clamps have a propen...
